Sample Videos of the Advanced Spaceflight Laboratory simulator and students in Corps of Discovery Programs
Video 1: Benchmark Charter School 1st graders preparing to learn about planetary motion. They’ll learn why the planets have seasons and why we see different constellations throughout the year.
Video 2: Benchmark Charter School 5th graders performing spectral analysis of Jupiter’s atmosphere. Analysis entails comparing the absorption spectra of the planet against specific absorption line filters to identify what molecules present in the atmosphere.
Video 3: Part 1 of Benchmark Charter School’s 5th graders interpreting the data they collected on-board Voyager (as shown in Video 2). The chart on the white board denotes the molecular weight of each molecule identified by its absorption spectra along the X axis and the mass of each planet along the Y axis. The objective is to draw conclusions about the distribution of molecules in the Solar System and how that distribution relates to planetary mass (and associated gravity).
